Sri Lanka is a tropical dry island but receives much high rainfall from monsoons, southwest and northeast but no climatic seasons. Wet zone is southwestern foothills and central hill country. Dry zone is around central hills and also has a sub category of two arid belts in southeast and the northwest. High rainfall from the monsoons gives water to forested areas to make 103 rivers with 32 waterfalls with highest Bambarakanda (863 feet) to Yaka Ella Falls (197 feet). In the British period some of the waterfalls were named in English. For ex, St. Clear, Devon, Bakers etc. The widest waterfall is Rathna fall in Kandy district and most lovely Bakers falls in Nuwaraelliya. Sudden drops of the hill ends named as worlds ends. Usually these places are with fantastic viewpoints. Horton Plains and Knuckles Mountain Range have the well-known worlds ends but there are other places also. According to popular belief bathing in natural hot water has an extra value to health with mineral. There is well-known hot springs in Kinniya in Trincomale in the east, Mahaoya and Wahawa in the central east, Ambilipitiya in the south. About 30000 years before the pre historic humans inhabited Sri Lanka. Their caves, carvings, paintings, burrier grounds and other monuments are available to explore.

Fauna and the flora distribution are also different within that each climate zones. Sri Lanka has recognized as a bio diversity hotspot in the world. There are 426 birds were recorded, 227 are resident, 100 migrants, 26 are endemic. About 248 butterflies reported 41 of them are endemic. Crocodiles to geckos, pythons to earth snake, monitor lizard to horn lizards, Sea turtles to terrapins, reptiles are found from the island. More than thirty spices of bats are in Sri Lanka with many endemic bats.
